Hometown Heroes
Hometown Heroes
The term “Hometown Hero” can refer to any number of people who do good in and for a community. We applaud anyone who foes out of their way to help others. But for this program when we refer to “Hometown Heroes” we are specifically talking about:
- Active military personnel
- Military veterans
- First responders (Law enforcement, fire and other emergency personnel)
- Teachers
- Front line healthcare workers (Emergency rooms)
To show our appreciation for these people we offer to prepare a free “Simple Will”. For our purposes, A “simple will” is a legal document outlining the distribution of straightforward assets (property, finances, personal items) and naming guardians for minors and/or pets. It is ideal for individuals with uncomplicated estates who want to appoint an executor and avoid state-mandated intestacy laws. It does not avoid probate and it is not a substitute for more elaborate estate planning.
In addition to the “simple will” we will prepare a living will, also known and an advance healthcare directive/ It is a document in which a person specifies what actions should be taken for their health if they are no longer able to make decisions due to illness or incapacity.
Last, we will also prepare a Power of Attorney which authorizes a person to make financial and medical decisions (other than end-of-life care) if you are unable to do so.
CAVEAT- While we make every effort to provide these documents to those who qualify as “Hometown Heroes”, please understand that our resources may require long delays in accommodating applicants. So, if you are facing an urgent timeline please consider options which may be more readily available.
