Helping the Cedar Rapids Derecho Relief Effort

The VanDerGinst Law Team has donated water, diapers, bags of ice, bar & chain oil, 2-cycle gas mixture, blade sharpeners, shop rags, solar lights, charcoal, lighter fluid, and food to the relief efforts for the Cedar Rapids derecho storm that hit on August 10, 2020.

We’ve also been volunteering some time to supply and hand out sandwiches, chips, cold drinks, and cookies for the line crews, along with helping 2 households clear some downed trees.

This was only a drop in the bucket.

Cedar Rapids has been devastated and it will take months to complete the relief and restoration effort.

Power is still out in many neighborhoods, but linemen and linewomen from all over the country have traveled to Cedar Rapids to help, and they are working 16-hour days to get the power back on.

It is a monumental task.

The Effect of the Derecho Storm on Cedar Rapids

To paint a picture of the impact the derecho storm of August 10 had on the city of Cedar Rapids, we wanted to give you some statistics:

While the Midwest is used to tornadoes, the derecho storm is rare and devastating.

The city of Cedar Rapids is still in great need for volunteers, supplies, and donations.
