The Illinois Supreme Court is the state’s highest court and has seven judgeships divided among districts throughout Illinois.

The Illinois Supreme Court has limited original jurisdiction. The court hears appeals of right in cases where the constitutionality of laws has come into question, and also has a docket of discretionary appeal from the Illinois Appellate Court. The court has general administrative and supervisory authority over all courts in the state of Illinois.

The current Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme court is Anne M. Burk. She is a judge for the first district of Illinois.
