Matthew has been with VanDerGinst Law since June 2020. As a graduate of Hoover High School and the University of Iowa, Matthew returned to Iowa just over a year ago where his roots run deep in the Des Moines area. Professionally he served as the Clinic Director for ten years with a diabetic, podiatric and limb salvage clinic in Wisconsin working with doctors and patients to navigate the tumultuous waters of healthcare. As a licensed health insurance agent, Matthew has worked intimately with patients in choosing the most comprehensive and budget friendly plans across twenty-five states.
Personally, giving back was ingrained from an early age. As an ordained non-denominational pastor, he has performed wedding ceremonies in Iowa and Wisconsin. Grant writing, volunteering and fundraising for various non-profits is a way he gives back. The World Food Prize, Iowa Council for International Understanding, the Wallace House Foundation and Vice-Presidential Museum, the U.S. Department of State Community Connections program, Youthbuild (San Bernardino, CA), the Redlands Symphony Orchestra (Redlands, CA) and Habitat for Humanity have all benefited from his insight over the years. Currently as a member of the Des Moines Area NAACP, One Iowa along with various mental health and recovery non-profits, Matthew hopes to continue building bridges, and providing education and insight as the Central Iowa community grows and thrives.
Matthew is a proud Iowan who enjoys the outdoors, especially hiking, fishing, camping and exploring the National Park system with his fiancée Andrea. Travel and music have always been incredibly important to him with trips to Mt. Rushmore, the Badlands, Colorado, Minnesota and Wisconsin so far in 2020. The “leave it better than you found it” philosophy runs through his life both personally and professionally every day.
