Elizabeth Flansburg

Elizabeth Flansburg

When Beth was a child, she wanted to be a reporter, a lawyer or a spy. She managed to embrace all three careers (although her spying was confined to her kids when she thought they were up to no good.)

Beth worked at the Daily Iowan her sophomore and junior years. During her senior year, Beth was named the head of The Des Moines Register’s Iowa City bureau, where she reported the news from Iowa City to a statewide audience. During her time at Iowa, she received multiple scholarships from the journalism school for her outstanding grasp of writing, editing, and reporting the news.

After graduating from the University of Iowa with a BA in journalism, Beth worked as a reporter covering trials and county politics. She later worked as an editor at The Kansas City Star overseeing 22 reporters in news bureaus from D.C. to Topeka to Jefferson City.

Beth returned to Des Moines to study law at Drake University Law School, where she excelled. Beth graduated in 1995 from Drake University Law School. She was a member of Drake’s Moot Court team and was named the top oral advocate in a 5-state region.

With the exception of her intermittent gigs as a “spy,” she has loved practicing law and decided that was her true calling.
