VanDerGinst Law Donates Helmets to iCan Shine Bike Camp
Don Passmore, in conjunction with the Children’s Therapy Center, is hosting the 4th Annual iCan Shine Bike Camp event this week in East Moline, and VanDerGinst Law is proud to be able to donate helmets for the registered participants.
The camp, which is organized by Passmore in this area, gives children with disabilities a chance to independently ride a two-wheel bicycle. Through a week long course, students learn how to balance and steer with the help of instructional equipment and a team of dedicated volunteers. By the end of the week, they have made vast improvements in their ability to ride a bike all by themselves. As always, helmet use is a must, regardless of whether one is an expert rider or a beginner. “Making sure the kids stay safe while taking part in this great event is our goal,” says CEO Dennis VanDerGinst. The camp runs from June 11-15 in East Moline.

VanDerGinst Law Hosts Free Bike Helmet Give-Away To Start Summer Off Safely
VIDEOVanDerGinst Law hosted a Free Bike Helmet Give-Away on June 2, 2018 in the lower parking lot of the Moline office. The event was part of the Hard Headed Kids Program, an organization started by CEO Dennis VanDerGinst whose mission is to provide bike safety helmets at no cost to children in the community. Since the organization’s inception, it has donated thousands of helmets to area children in an effort to keep them safe on their bikes during the summer. “We know the number one rule in bike safety is to always wear a helmet,” says VanDerGinst. “We wanted to start a program that makes it easy for children to make smart safety choices.” The event, which took place from 10am-12pm, gave away dozens of helmets to children of all sizes. Moline Police Officer Hoover was on-site with a police bike and spoke to the children about additional tips for safe riding. WQAD News 8 was on site to capture some of the fun and aired a segment about the event on the evening newscast. Did you miss your chance to attend the give-away? VanDerGinst Law joined the nearly 200 vendors and 14,000 attendees with games, prizes, safety information and more.
“We thought the Farmers’ Market would be a great opportunity for patrons to gain awareness of our firm’s name and know that we are in the area and are able to help them if they have experienced a personal injury,” said the firm’s CEO Dennis VanDerGinst.
Shortly after the market opened, a line had already formed in front of one of the booths with adults and kids alike eager to take a turn on the Spin To Win prize wheel for a chance to win a variety of prizes including drawstring totes, first-aid kits, light-up yo-yos and fans, a popular favorite among the crowd as temps reached the 90’s.
At the other booth stations, parents were able to sign up and receive a voucher for a free bike helmet as part of the firm’s Hard Headed Kids program, which seeks to provide bike safety helmets at no cost to children in the community. “We’ve proudly given away thousands of bike helmets since the program’s inception,” notes VanDerGinst. “Our goal is to create as many ‘hard-headed’ kids as possible!”
The traffic at all three booths was nonstop from the market’s opening at 7:30 to its closing at noon. “We hope folks had a great time stopping by our booth and learning more about our firm,” said VanDerGinst.
The firm’s sponsorship includes a booth presence (located at 3rd Street & 3rd Avenue) for the remainder of the season. The next market is Saturday, June 2.

MOLINE, Ill. – VanDerGinst Law, P.C. has filed a lawsuit against Hillcrest Resort, Inc., in Orion, seeking to recover damages as a result of the death of Tyler John. John, of Rock Island, died at the Hillcrest facility on May 28, 2016 while swimming in a pool.
The lawsuit alleges that John was invited to use the pool by Hillcrest staff, that Hillcrest was negligent when it failed to comply with State of Illinois rules pertaining to the operation of swimming pools including the maintaining of proper licensures, that Hillcrest failed to maintain adequate lighting in the pool area and that Hillcrest failed to warn John of unreasonably dangerous pool conditions.
The case is being co-counseled by Dennis VanDerGinst and Michelle Schneiderheinze of VanDerGinst Law, P.C. “No amount of money will bring Tyler back, but when negligence and carelessness contribute to accidents like this, someone needs to be held accountable,” said VanDerGinst. “Accountability is what prevents these types of situations from arising in the future.”

VanDerGinst Announces New “Hard-Headed Kids” Bike Safety Helmet Campaign
VanDerGinst Law is pleased to announce a new “Hard Headed Kids” Bike Safety Helmet Campaign. Over the years VanDerGinst Law has given away over ten thousand bike helmets to area children.
“The ‘Hard Headed Kids’ campaign is probably one of my favorite things that the firm does for the community,” said managing partner, Dennis VanDerGinst. “When we first began this campaign many years ago there was a young boy who was hit by a car shortly after having been given one of our bike helmets. Thankfully, he was wearing it at the time. There was a dent put in the helmet as a result of the impact. If not for the helmet, he likely would not be here with us right now. It is SO important that children wear a helmet when they are biking, skating or doing anything else that could result in head injuries.”
VanderGinst Law will sponsor a series of “Bike Safety Rodeos” this summer. Bike safety instructions will be taught and helmets will be given away. That schedule will be posted soon. In the meantime, anyone in need of a bike helmet can contact Deana VanDerGinst at 800-960-8529 for information.
