Justice & Equality

Written By Stephen B.

Few things in our lives affect us more than the legal system. From the quality of products we buy to whether or not the government can pursue a particular course of action, the legal system influences practically everything. Indeed, our laws protect the very planet itself, preventing the pollution of our air and water, as well as the exploitation of our natural resources. Should a violation of the law occur, the legal system exists to prosecute the perpetrator. Attorneys and judges provide each individual with a fair and just trial. Our legal system provides for the safety of both the private and public good.

The legal system guards the rights the rights of the individual, providing recourse from attacks on one’s person, name, and property. At its most elemental level, the legal system provides attorneys to either defend the accused, thus assuring a fair trial regardless of economic status, or to prosecute those accused of violating the law. Crimes such as assault and battery, abuse and murder are all punishable under the laws, and such penalty assuredly serves as a deterrent against those who would perpetrate such a deed. In a similar manner the legal system protects us from infringement on our property rights protecting against crimes such as burglary, theft, and trespassing. The legal system also protects one’s good name, as it provides recourse against crimes such as slander and libel. The privacy of citizens is also protected by the legal system, as laws prevent the search of private property without probable cause. Laws regulate the sale of firearms, hopefully keeping them out of unsafe hands, and thus providing for our safety.

The legal system helps to prevent discrimination. The laws of the United States allow for the prosecution of discrimination based on sex, age, race, religion, color, national origin, or disability. In this manner, the legal system helps to provide equality among the citizens of the United States. Additionally the legal system of the U.S. prosecutes hate crimes to the fullest extent of the law, helping to prevent and reduce hate crimes in the United States.

The entirety of the environment of the United States is protected by the legal system. Legislation has mandated certain standards be upheld for clean air and water, and that companies must properly dispose of hazardous waste. Should violations of these protocols occur, the legal system provides a way to bring a close to such actions, and punish the perpetrator. In this manner the legal system helps to reduce pollution, and keep citizens safe from hazardous materials.

The laws of the Federal government protect the citizens of the United States from tyranny. Article III of the Constitution called fir the creation of a judicial branch within the government. The judicial branch of the U.S. government can declare articles of legislation or the actions of the executive branch unconstitutional and bar such action. In this manner the legal system prevents any branch of the government from abusing its powers, further protecting the citizens of the United States.

The citizens of the United States are kept safe by a strong legal system. The legal system works to promote justice among the people, and equality before the law. Our laws stand as a deterrent against wrongdoing, be it an attack on the rights of the individual or on the public good. And should the laws be violated, attorneys act for the welfare of the public; prosecuting the violators, and assuring a fair trial for all citizens. The very notion of equality before the law that exists for every citizen ensured America’s prosperity and longevity.
