Western Illinois Seminar Fights Scams Against Seniors
In an age where identity theft and other scams are prolific, seniors are targeted much more frequently than most other groups. Whether these scams claim to provide medicare discount cards, donations to charities, prizes, or cheap drugs, they all are directed at seniors who have a lifetime of savings to lose. One Western Illinois group is trying to help.
The Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging (or WIAAA) has scheduled a free workshop on Wednesday, May 14. Titled “Avoiding Frauds and Scams,” the workshop is for seniors, family members, and caregivers who should all be ‘in the know’ about the various ways that fraudulent persons may try to deceive seniors.
The workshop will discuss why seniors c an be more susceptible than other groups, address signs that an offer is not legitimate, and provide essential information about what to do if you believe you have been scammed. Workshop details:
